The Cambridge Secondary 1 Progression Tests are a series of tests covering stages 7, 8 and 9. Schools can use them to monitor the progress of learners as individuals or in classes. For each subject (including English as a second language), each stage test has two papers. Maths has a third short paper for assessing mental skills. The tests have structured questions with a selection of item types, including multiple choice, short and extended answer. You can download Cambridge Secondary 1 Progression Tests Past Papers 2014 Stage 7, 8 and 9 for practice at the end of the article.
The tests are marked in Cambridge and provide schools with an external international benchmark for learner performance. Each learner receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report, giving schools detailed information and parents extra trust in the feedback they receive.
A foundation for progression
Cambridge Secondary 1 provides excellent preparation for Cambridge Secondary 2 and other educational programmes. Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint tests can be used to monitor learners’ readiness for the next stage of education.
Cambridge Secondary 1 includes two testing options: Cambridge Secondary 1 Progression Tests and Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint. These assessments provide an international benchmark of student achievement, helping teachers to identify learners’ strengths and weaknesses and give advice on progression routes.
Appropriate and relevant internationally, Cambridge Secondary 1 has been designed to be culturally sensitive. It includes top-quality teaching and assessment resources appropriate for teaching and learning in local and international schools.
Schools can use Cambridge Secondary 1 with other curricula. No part of the programme is compulsory, so teachers can use the materials to suit their own situation.
Comprehensive support for teachers
Support includes face-to-face and online training, curriculum frameworks, teacher guides, lists of resources and a secure support site.
CIE hold two Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint test series each year, in May and October. The tests cover all major areas of learning in the Cambridge Secondary 1 curriculum frameworks for English, English as a second language, mathematics and science. [source]
